Service

Here's a few interesting things that happened this week. I hope you all are ready. We were knocking this cul-de-sac. And the first guy we talked to, the first thing he says to us is, "you guys come more often then the mailman." Come to find out, other English elders knocked that house like three days earlier and so that's why he said that. And then two houses later. This Asian dude answers. But he wasn't understanding our English and so we asked him, "do you prefer English or Spanish?" He says Spanish. And so we thought that was funny. But then, we asked him his name, Carlos. We thought it was super funny to meet an Asian who prefers Spanish and is named Carlos. But don't worry it gets better. The next house we knock, we had knocked three times, and were getting ready to leave, but this lady opens the door. The first thing she says is, "oh I was just in the shower but had to see who was at the door." So she is naked, hiding behind her door, still talking to us. But the funniest part is that there was a window on her door. Not clear but one of those tempered glass windows. So we couldn't see anything clear but she defiantly just had a towel. So we tried to keep it short so she could go and change and get ready but she kept dragging on the conversation talking about how she used to be a member, she had three sons serve missions, and seeing where we are from. Before leaving she said, "I'm going to leave out some treats for you all and so go around the corner and then when you hear the door shut, come and grab them." So we went around the corner and waited and waited and waited. About like 10 minutes later we hear the door shut and so we go up and she had made bags full of candy for us along with a water bottle. I'll throw in a picture. But it was the nicest thing! Then as we grabbed them, she opens the door, still not dressed and says, "have a great day!" Haha the bag was full of candy and treats and she even threw in a UTEP lanyard because her husband coaches football at UTEP. So nice!!

So before this next story, flashback to a week or two ago. We had been finding and we found this lady named Tammy. She is amazing. She lives in a trailer with her mother, and two daughters. And the trailer is in horrible condition. The pipes freeze and they only have one space heater for the whole trailer. On windy days, they said the wind comes through the trailer and it's horrible. And so we went to home depot this last Saturday to see if we could get this stuff donated to help her with her trailer. And so we are in the process for that but got some stuff anyways to start her trailer. So we went and got started on her trailer. I'll throw in some pictures but we are replacing the skirting on her trailer to insulate the pipes so they don't freeze. We got ply wood, stapled cardboard on the inside to insulate, dug a trench to keep it from not moving, and put them on the trailer. We didn't finish all the way but it'll be better. Especially when we finish. It was so fun to one do some good labor, and two to do some good service for good people who need it. She asked us if she could feed us dinner and we said if she would like to. So she cooked us chicken and pork, onion, peppers, and potatoes over a charcoal grill. It was amazing. She didn't even have a table and so as you can see in the pictures, we used some ply wood as our table. It was so fun to eat and talk with them and be able to share a spiritual thought with them.

Speaking of spiritual thoughts, it seems like everything has been crazy lately but everything has pointed back to Jesus Christ. In 3 Nephi 11:11 it says, "And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning." He was the greatest gift we will ever receive. Everything he did was out of pure love. Ever since the very beginning, he knew what needed to be done. And because he loved us so much, he did it. And because he has already done it, nothing we do will ever be to much for the atonement. Que hermosa!
