Lock the Gate While I Protect my Huevos

Good morning everyone! This week went by crazy fast. And best of all, we saw a lot of miracles this week. I was able to go on exchanges with oth the district leaders in my zone this last week and it's funny because I personally think that the most miracles happen on exchanges. So Tuesday I was on exchanges with the YSA elders who are over UTEP campus. We of course were trying to talk to everyone. We would stop someone and then walk with them to their car or the bus stop or where ever they were going. Well it took talking to about five people before we even made it onto campus. But the first person we talked to on campus was this lady. As we got to know her, she had mentioned how she had been looking for a church. We were able to testify about how we know that Jesus Christ's church had been restored through a modern day prophet. Thinking about it later, if we wouldn't have talked to the people we did, we wouldn't have been able to run into this lady.

Cool little miracle story on the other exchanges... So after district council this week, there were four of us all together but we needed to go and contact some people in the area before we dropped an elder back off with his companion. So two of us went and contacted the people we were there to contact, and then me and Elder Vail went and just talked to people. So we walked up to this house because we could hear music and the door was open. We knocked and this lady came to the door. We introduced our self and what we do. As we went into the spiritual thought, I asked her is she read Spanish because all I had with me was a spanish pamphlet about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And she said no. Elder Vail is an english missionary and so he was prepared with English things. But the only pamphlet he had was of the Plan of Salvation. So we gave that to her and talked about it. Well as we shared she was getting teary eyed. As we talked with her, the house she was at was her parents and they had passed away about a year earlier. Being able to testify about how I know God created a plan for us and that because of His Plan and His son Jesus Christ, we can see our loved ones again.

Those were both funny little stories and maybe to someone else they wouldn't have meant so much, but to me I am grateful for these two miracle stories that show how much God loves EVERY single one of us. And to just think, what if I would have talked about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with this sister instead of the Plan of Salvation. God leads this work.

In the past I have talked about this way cool guy we are teaching who is deaf. This last week we had our first lesson with him and all I have to say is wow. This guy has a crazy busy work schedule. We started the lesson and real quick we found out that he didn't even know who Jesus Christ is. Which is something I have never really had to teach because most everyone here is catholic and knows who Jesus Christ is. So being about to talk about Jesus Christ with him and show who he is was something so amazing. We then were able to talk about the Sacrament and testify of that. We were sharing scriptures from the Book of Mormon and he says, "I have one, let me go grab it." When he walked away, his wife who is a member told us that last week, he went to California for work. When he was packing for it, he packed a Book of Mormon she gave to him a while back. We were able to continue and finish the lesson. I love teaching lessons because the spirit is always super strong. But Teaching an ASL lesson is so much more powerful. It is silent and so the spirit is so strong. We are excited for this hermano.

Quick funny story. We were going to a lesson Saturday morning and our fellowship for the lesson was from the YSA ward. We met him there and this person had dogs outside who were barking so loud at us and wouldn't stop. So this Brother starts unlocking the gate and goes in. He gets in and says to us while we are standing on the outside of the gate, "lock the gate while I protect my huevos." Need I say, he is white and so it was so funny, I couldn't stop laughing.

This last weekend was stake conference for our stake. Elder Douglas of the 70 came to talk with us. Saturday night he said something that liiterally has stuck on me. He said, "The Holy Ghost is the perfect house guest. He will stay when he is welcome and will leave when told." I was like woah hold on that was good. I love the scripture 2 Nephi 32:5 which says, "For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do." We are promised that with the companionship of the Holy Ghost, we will be guided in all things. But if we want him to guide us, we first have to be living worthy to have him with us. I got thinking of the little things in life and if there is anything small I could change so that the Holy ghost is with me more and is stronger in my life. I have seen in my life as I continue to change the little things to become more like Christ, I am better guided by the Spirit.
